Head of School’s Blog – 3 May 2024

Welcome to the end of another week. First of all, can I remind you that this is a Bank Holiday weekend so we will welcome students back to school on Tuesday 7 May when Year 11 will also start their formal exam season, starting with Health and Wellbeing. Breakfast will be provided free of charge for Year 11 on exam days throughout the examination season to ensure that they get the best possible start to their day.

Other dates for your diary are:

– Parent Voice on Wednesday 8 May between 6-7pm. Mrs Connor, SENDCO will be attending to give an insight into everything SEND related. Please remember this is a general overview, not a meeting to discuss individual students.

-Year 7 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 16 May between 4-7pm. Appointments can be made on Arbor.

We have had some excellent news in terms of Young Enterprise where our joint team between Carisbrooke and Medina won the Isle of Wight Competition and now progress onto the regional finals. The team, Wild Wax Melts, also won the Dianne Butler Memorial Finance Award. Huge congratulations to them.

We sent out a letter today including information from the National Crime Agency. You may have seen in the news this week that they have taken the unusual step to issue an alert that has been sent to all schools to send out to parents/carers. The topic of this is about the increase in cases of financially motivated sexual extortion. This is clearly a very worrying increase and is linked to unregulated social media activity. Social media apps are a minefield and can be very difficult to navigate and supersive as a parent, with Snapchat being particularly problematic due to it’s disappearing messages. I am sure we are all aware that people who create an identity on social media are not always who they say they are. To help you understand how best to support your child with this, here is an infographic explaining all about Snapchat.

Finally, I would like to congratulate our Hot Chocolate Friday winners this week who have been awarded their Golden ticket for either 100% attendance in the last week or were top achievement points earners in their year group. This is the last one for our Year 11 as they will now be tied up with exams. Well done to: Sophie, Kaitlin, Maisie, Oliver, Jack, Mya, Bea, Tianna, Lily-Rose and Alex.

Have a lovely weekend!
