Head of School’s Blog – 5 July 2024

Welcome to this week’s blog.

On Tuesday we held our annual Awards Evening. This is one of the highlights of our calendared events as it is when we recognise individual students for their contributions to lessons and other wider curricular opportunities. There were over 90 deserving recipients across the year groups. We could have presented double, if not triple the number of awards. I would like to congratulate all our award winners – You should be very proud that you have been recognised by your teachers for your hard work and excellent attitude. All students who received an award had an individual photo and these will be sent home shortly. Thank you to all the students who showcased their work and well done to all our students who participated in the musical performances during the evening. You were all amazing. I was extremely proud of the whole Carisbrooke Community.

Medina College hosted the Federation games on Tuesday for our Year 7 students. I managed to get over to see them. Whilst overall Medina College won, the results were very close and the enjoyment on the student’s faces whilst taking part was a pleasure to see. They competed respectfully and I witnessed some lovely sportsmanship. I received some excellent feedback about our Sports Ambassadors who were helping with the games. Well done to them!

We are looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students next week for transition day. We have some exciting lessons and activities planned for them and they’ll get a good taste of a day in the life of a Carisbrooke College student.

Year 10 had their taster session at the VI Form on Wednesday. Feedback from the students was that they found the day really useful. I was impressed by their attitude and focus when talking to them.

Trial exams begin for Year 10 next week. This is for the students to experience how the exam protocols and procedures work. Whilst this can be a very anxious and stressful time for students, please reassure them that they should just do their best. If they have any worries, they can speak to Mrs McDowall or their tutors who are all here to support them throughout the process.

On Thursday we have a group of Year 8 and 9 students attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It looks to be a very exciting day and we’ll share photos on our social media pages once they return.

We have only three weeks left until the end of term. Our expectations of students remains the same – arrive to school on time, in full uniform and with equipment ready. Attendance, as always, is vitally important for your child’s education and we are grateful for your continued support with this.

Congratulations to our highest achievement point winners last week, Ellie Year 7, Donovan Year 8, Samuel Year 9 and Alban Year 10. Keep up the good work!

I hope you have a lovely weekend.
